TESTING OF SOIL ORGANIC CARBON USING SOCDK
Soil sampling
• Make V shaped pit (~20-30 cm deep) in the field with clean spade or auger.
• Collect approximately 200-300 gm soil from the base of the pit.
• Divide this soil sample in four parts.
• Take only two parts from diagonally opposite side by discarding the remained two.
• Repeat the above step 3-4 times till obtaining 50 gm sample.
Sample preparation for analysis
• Finely grind the soil with the help of pestle and mortar or stones.
• Sieve with given strainer and air-dry it before use.
Sample analysis using kit
• Take one spoon fine soil.
• Add 10 ml of solution A with syringe
• Add 10 ml of solution B with syringe
• Mix gently and allow it to stand for 10-15 min
• Filter through a given filter paper
• Compare the color of the clean filtrate with the given color chart.
• The organic carbon content of your soil is the assigned value of most matching color on the standard chart.
