Professor Sharma’s has an experience of serving ICAR > 45 years in Plant Pathology after joining ICAR-IARI, New Delhi as Scientist in September 1976 through competition in Agricultural Research Services, UPSC and also completed her Ph. D as an in-service candidate. The major areas of research centred on various aspects viz., variability in plant pathogens, breeding for disease resistance, biological control, Integrated Pest Management, and Integrated Disease Management of different agricultural cropping systems. Trained in host–pathogen interaction from Gottingen University and Pflanzenschutz in AckerbauGrunland (BBA), Germany in 1993-94 through UNDP- FAO Fellowship under Phytotron facility program of IARI. Through Divisional, ICAR-NATP, CGP-NATP, IRRI, DST and DBT (>20) projects has worked on pathogen variability and management with special reference to evaluation of hybrids of different crops (Tomato, Onion and Brinjal) against different diseases, Development, and validation of IPM packages for tomato, chilli, morphological, cultural, pathogenic, and molecular characterization of Alternaria brassicae, A. brassicicola, A. porri,and Fusarium oxysporum f sp cucumerinum in India. Specifically worked on fungal and bacterial bioagents, developed biologically effective strains, demonstrated technology in the farmer’s field. Developed a patent and commercialized the technology on Trichoderma harzianum and transferred the technology to the State Agriculture department of Rajasthan, Punjab. Strain Th3 has been registered in CIB, Faridabad in 2021.Also associated with roses and vegetable varieties with the breeders. Associated in germplasm BR-2 of cauliflower INGR 19078 as a disease tolerant variety which has been registered by Plant Germplasm Registration Committee of ICAR October 21,2019.As an ICAR- Emeritus Scientist (2017-2020) in SKNAU Jobner-Jaipur, worked on the use of biocontrol agents(eco-friendly) in consortium against major pests of Groundnut and Cumin. Guided more than 30 M. Sc and Ph. D students published >110 research publications in international and national journals, 17 books, 35 chapters in edited books and organized >20 trainings at national and international level. Author of ICAR textbook on “Biological control of plant pathogens and weeds” (2014), Editor of Trichoderma- Host Pathogen interactions and applications (2020), Springer publication, Visited Germany, China, USA, New Zealand, Thailand, Spain, Uzbekistan, Israel for attending international conferences as well as developing scientific collaborations.
Awarded by professional societies including “Life Time Achievement” Award (2024) in Agriculture by Aqua Foundation- New Delhi, Recognition Award for outstanding contribution in Plant Pathology and dedicated Service to Indian Phytopathological Society (2023) by Indian Phytopathological Society, New Delhi, Life Time Achievement Award (2023) by Prosper Foundation & Agri Amigos Private Limited- Tamil Nadu in the field of Agriculture- Plant Pathology, Dr. Rajendra Prasad Excellence Scientist Award (2022) by The Society of Tropical Agriculture- New Delhi, Lifetime Achievement Award (2022) by S. K. Chaudhary Educational Trust’s and Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Madhubani- Bihar, President (2021-22) by Indian Phytopathological Society, New Delhi, Dr. Y. L. Nene outstanding Plant Pathology Teacher award (2019), National Crystal Agri award by Krishi Anusandhan and Kisan Vikas Foundation (2014), New Delhi, Sharda Lele award (2014) by Indian Phytopathological Society and by Indian Society of Mycology and Plant Pathology. Prof. Sharma has been elected as Fellows of many societies including Indian Phytopathological Society (2004), Indian Society of Ornamental Horticulture(2011), Society for Applied Biotechnology (2011), Doctor’s Agricultural and Horticultural and Horticultural Development Society (2018), Associate Editor of Journal of Plant Disease Sciences (2019 contd.), Served as Expert member of ICAR, Department of Science and Technology and Department of Biotechnology, Academic council, Research advisory committee. As a President of Indian Phytopathological Society, organized 8th IPS- International Conference (hybrid mode) on “Plant Pathology: Retrospect and Prospects” at SKN Agriculture University, Jobner-Jaipur, Rajasthan, India during March 23-26, 2022 on the eve of 75th year of establishment of the society.
Presently working with 4U2NV –Agriscientist lab, Jaipur on Organic Farming, Natural Farming Biopesticides, Waste Decomposer technology and collaborating with ICAR-IARI, BARC- Mumbai, IISR- Lucknow and other institutes of ICAR, FPO and farmers of Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa, Haryana, Punjab and Maharashtra.
